Learn How to Make a Homemade Carpet Cleaning Solution
Sometimes you just need to do the job yourself. Whether it’s for financial reasons or because your of the belief that, “If you want something done right you have to do it yourself,” every now and then you have to get your hands dirty and do the job yourself.
Here’s the thing though; you need to know what you are doing before you charge off and get yourself involved in a festival-like flurry of cleaning. If you want to wash your hands of professional cleaning services and do the job yourself then you’ll need a killer cleaning solution to help you along the way!
Assuming you have a cleaning machine, here’s what you need:
- HOT Water (approx. 1 gallon of water)
- 1 Tablespoon dish washing liquid
- 1/4 Cup 3% Peroxide
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons White Vinegar
First of all, fill your machine with hot water (try and get the water as hot as possible from the tap). Don’t be too overzealous with the water though. Remember to leave space for the other ingredients.
Now add a tablespoon of dish washing liquid to the water. You can use any brand of dish washing liquid but make sure you don’t use white bleach. Add vinegar and peroxide to the solution. Use 3% peroxide (you can buy this at any pharmacy, chemist or supermarket first aid section).
Once you’ve added the solution simply clean your floors as normal. You can rinse your carpets with hot water if you need to, however, in my experience, it is not necessary.
Once you are done stand back and admire the effectiveness of this homemade solution. You may have to repeat the process with more stubborn stains, but after a couple of cleans your carpets will look as good as new.
